I have been looking for the thread here a short time back which discussed what I had thought was a sniper/ spotters tool but was identified as being used by another part of the military. Could someone recall what it's use was worked out to be or re direct me to the thread. I cannot find it :sos:

The drift I got from milsurps site is they are used in map referencing IE to point out a feature from the map to another person looking through via the other aperture this sighting tool it is a training aid as the one I purchased stated snipers used it they did not use them at all
It is called a staff pointer and is used for map exercises to point out a distant objekt to another person.
Not really sure where this "Snipers tool" bullshit crept in.
It is a simple sight training aid, nothing to do with snipers and used at the very start of basic training for not only shooting but map reading and lots besides to make young soldiers aware of a specified location and acquisition of it through a sight aid:banghead:
Threads 2 and 3 have it dead right. Nothing to do with snipers as Gil points out. It is called a 'snipers' thinggy because 'snipers' thinggy's sell! Like 'snipers' manhole covers!

I was lucky only paid $35.00 AU for mine have seen the Sniper Thingies for $138.00 AU in the UK Hey Gil can I have the Sniper manhole cover the Vasili Saitzev used in Stalingrad I will need a COA with it as well please as they are as rare as this type of Sniper stuffff LMAO :rofl::madsmile::lol:

On a more serious note It looks very much like you have to use the words RARE or VINTAGE when trying to sell anything "alleged" to be a piece of SNIPERS kit including the rifle
