Okay, I am not new to guns but my son just bought a Remington 03A3. Whenever I cycle the bolt, the firing pin goes forward with the bolt, it doesn't remain cocked. Am I missing something stupid or is there something wrong?

The firing pin can't go forward with the bolt unless something is wrong. I suspect it's the firing pin lock being worn or a bad sear. Pictures? Regards, Rick.Quote:

I assume the firing pin lock is the little serated button just behind the bolt when it is in the locked position? Because that doesn't move at all until I loosen the stock too.
You didn't say anything about a sporterized stock and I can't help you other than to say it is not inletted properly. There is too much wood somewhere. Good luck. Regards, Rick.Quote:

Sounds like the stock is hitting either the trigger or depressing the front edge of the sear. Take the bolt out, all but remove the screws, watch the sear as you tighten the screws, if it starts dropping you'll probably need to relieve the stock in the sear or trigger area.
When people remove material from the sear or firing pin in an attempt to reduce travel, they create a similar problem. Very little movement of the trigger or sear could make it fail. Make sure there is ample engagement it should not have a hair trigger. IIRC there should be around .125 angagement.
