Nothing unusual about a X prefix, my 1946 Fazackerley No5 has a X prefix & the one it replaced was also X prefixed.
I would call the price hefty only because of the renumbering & the fact i cant pick it up & inspect it
Agree.
Its looks like the "Ishapore" Cross Screw has been removed and the hole plugged & made good.
I saw the de-ishy repair, but what doesnt do it for me is the bolt is re-stamped.
and the comment,
"All the numbers on this rifle have been over stamped, which was fairly common armory practice for easy assembly, as the factory electro stencilling can be very faint and unreadible"
that makes me less happy, seems a common bubba bodge as well....think I'll pass.
Nothing amiss with the renumbering that is quite common, the X prefix rifle i sold was a twin to this one except for the screw/repair in the forend, while the renumbering does lower the value to me, the amount would depend on if you can still make out the original number & it matches, as was the case with my one.
