I have been offered this carbine and am somewhat interested. I know it is Inland and experimental or presentation, not sure which or what experiment.
Anyway does it look correct and what is a fair price, in other words if I purchased and chose to sell I would like to at least break even.
The seller is open to offers but thinks it is VERY valuable, maybe it is.
Your guidance is appreciated.

Stock crudely carved up to take a K98k-style sling ??? Not any kind of arsenal or factory work.
In the sense that what Bubba does is often highly unusual, I suppose you could charitably call it "experimental".
Please explain to the seller that FUBARing a good stock does NOT make a rifle more valuable.
And overstamping the recoil plate proves nothing except that the perpetrator had access to a set of stamps.
The lack of enthusiastic comment by the real carbine experts also tells me something. I suspect they are just being too diplomatic to write "yeuch".
Maybe the experiment was the use of the router they brought at Walmart I know nought of M1's but if Patricks comments are something to go by get the seller to pay you to take it off their hands move on and find a real one that will do your hard earned cash some good...........
IMHO a fair price is (conservative market value of a non-original carbine) minus (cost of a good stock) minus (effort in fitting stock and adjusting bedding etc) minus (irreversible depreciation caused by dodgy overstamping) = forget it.Quote:

But this is not an ex-factory hand-stamped recoil plate - it looks as if it may have been overstamped - please look carefully just above the XC79.
Or is that just accidental scratching? If so, how did it get to be scratched just there. Hardly in normal use, but maybe during dismantling/reassembly???
And the 7 and 9 do not look as if they belonged to the same set of number stamps, let alone the same set as the XC.
Pretty tatty for a presentation, wouldn't you think?
There is a basic rule for evaluating these dubious objects - look at what you see - not what you expect to see, not what you hope to see, not what someone with an ulterior motive says you ought to see, but what is actually there - unaffected by any fanciful stories, wishful thinking, hopes to have struck the jackpot etc. etc.
And I see a carbine with a mucked-about recoil plate in a spoilt shaft. Period.
As Mr Laidler says buy the rifle not the story, cripes I have a SMLE in my safe that Neil Armstrong took to the moon in 1969 to repel the Independence day aliens that were plotting against us way back then, I am putting it on flea bay soon for ummm $2.5 Million and you get 2 empty charger clips thrown in at no extra cost..........Now that's a story! :yikes:
