joining 2 halves of a hollow musket ball how any one ?

i have a brunswick P1841 rifle and want to shoot light hollow balls which i can cast no problem but can someone tell me how to join the 2 halves together please

Just a couple of questions first:

1) Why do you want to make hollow musket balls? Is it just to reduce the weight?
If so, it would surely be simpler to
a) use a smaller ball, with very thick patches - the precursor to sabot loads, OR
b) use a modern sabot load, OR
c) use a minié bullet with a deep-hole base. (Somebody must have made such molds, as I have a cal. 69 minie somewhere) OR
d) get (special order) a suitably sized version of the Lee 12-bore slug mold or equivalent.


2) What will happen when the two halves come apart? I doubt there is a glue available to ordinary people (if at all) that will stand the shock of being fired out of a gun.
(Soldering would be about the only possibility to join the 2 halves)

Under the g force due to acceleration a hollow ball will very likely slump or collapse.

You might think about casting a ball around a light weight core.

But to answer your question lead melts at 327 C. Lead free solder (Sn-Ag-Cu ternary eutectic) melts at 217 C.
