Another early carbine

After Seeing that great sn 1205 carbine posted by tschie earlier. I thought I would post photos of mine which is not as early as his for evaluation. One question I have is on the stock. In one book I read that the cartouche wasn't transferred to the right side butt stock until serial 30,000. Otherwise the stock appears to be a correct early high wood with no bomb stamped in the inside of the forearm and a bomb and IO in the sling well. Is that 30,000 number set in stone or is it possible the stock could be within the approx. range for the serial number and 7-42 date of my carbine? Ray

I don't know the anwser to your question, but thanks for sharring the photos. I'm jelous !

The only thing identified so far on the carbine that is not correct for the period is that it has a later 24-1/2 count coil hammer spring installed instead of the earlier 22 coil one. The late spring would give the hammer a more harder or positive strike. Probably a company arms room replacement. And just to make sure that the spring was the only thing not correct I checked all the other parts including I took the bolt apart and everything is as it should be, a cone shaped extractor plunger, a type #1 extractor, and a correct firing pin.
I need to get an early spring to put the carbine back to all period configuration, Does anyone have an extra one they would sell? Ray

Ray, you show a circular mark in a close-up. I can't tell where on the stock that mark is located, and I don't remember seeing one like it. What is it?

The cut on that operating slide looks square instead of round. It is supposed to be a Type 2 isn't it? Maybe it's just the camera angle that makes it appear that way. - Bob

Ray, have you got any more pics of the operating slide? The one you posted looks like the later Type 3. I'd like to find a genuine early hammer spring, also. Thanks! - Bob

Never mind about the slide, I was looking so close for the rounded cut that I didn't notice the view was from inside the "box" end! FYI, Type 3 slides can have the "circled PI" also.
