S&K, Fulton Scope Mount Question

Due to tired old eyes, I'm considering adding a scope to my No4. However, from just looking at photos of the above, it would appear that you will not be able to charge the magazine from the top. So, does the mean that effectively you end up with a single shot rifle or have to drop the mag to manually reload 10 rounds. Reason I ask is that I am interested in shooting at Project Appleseed with this rifle and to complete the course you must shoot 10 rounds rapid with a reload after the first two. Appreciate any input.

You have to load the magazine from the top by hand since the charger bridge is no longer useable. Taking the magazine out to reload would be much slower IMHO. I suppose you could have a spare magazine properly fitted and loaded with 8 rds. Just switch them out after your 2 shot string. That would be quickest.

I agree, I have always top loaded for the application in hand, if you missed with the first round it was time to skiddadel....sharpish thats IMHO anyway :sos::sos::surrender:

I understand where he's coming from having shot NRA across the course matches in the past. One of the rapid fire rules here in the USA is 2 rounds and then 8 rounds so that a magazine change is inevitable. They even make a Garand clip that is designed to hold two rounds so you don't have to fumble around with loose rounds in an M1 Rifle. Of course the M14/M1A and AR15 style service rifles are all magazine fed which makes life easier.

Watch out for any sharp edges on the underside of the mounts, which will cut your right thumb during the excitement of rapid reload through top of magazine. I have never filed down the sharp edge, in case it interferes with ejection of empty cases somehow. Band-aid goes on the thumb in the right place before the shoot. :thup:

My five cents worth regards S&K mount - tried basically all the other "no drill" scope mounts for No 4 - B Square etc, all total waste time, until I got onto the S&K mount, holds zero which none of the others would. BUT, faced issues with getting correct eye relief with S&K due to its short space between the rings, most modern scopes end up being set far to rearward. Scope needs to be very very short or with the turrets well forward - i.e. simular to configuration of a No 32 scope. I resolved issue by using old Weaver K series that has the turrets forward simular to No 32 style.
