I should think the whole thing would be rare Alan...very nice too. Nice price too...
Going to war eh! If I had a choice of Alpaca's half track or that I'll take the half track. Mind you, if it was between the motorised bike and a Morris Marina, maybe I'd take the bike!

There was a joke doing the rounds that there were only two man made objects visible from space. The great wall of China and the door shut lines of a Morris Marina. There wasc a later 'updated?' version called an Ital....... The passenger couldn't stretch his legs because the bulkhead and heater (the heater was a joke too.....) prevented his feet from going forwards unless they were spread left and right like Charlie Chaplin!
Half a ton of valuable raw material went INTO the factory and half a ton of coloured scrap came out of the other end
What a horrid looking car, I love the bike I guess in stealth mode you turned off the motor and pedalled into battle complete with tool kit, sleeping roll and the good ol SMLE.
The horses do not seem overly impressed with the contraption!
Over here they were marketed as Leyland Marinas and the only reason they sold was there was still a lot of anti Japanese sentiment left over from WW2.
I still remember the day when a well to do cocky rung up the boss and told him to bring out a good, cheap, reliable small car for his daughter. The boss drove a brand new Corolla and had me follow him out to drive him back from the farm.
To cut a long story short, my boss and the Corolla were smartly evicted at the point of an SMLE. :yikes:
We went back a couple of hours later with a Cortina which apparently was much more acceptable.
Anything British is still referred to here as a POLPOS;)
Jeremy Clarkson says the Allegro was a "less bad car than the Marina, because the Allegro was a horrible car in a more original way than the Marina".
And the Allegro even had a square steering wheel, if I recall correctly.
AKA: Austin All Agro
Re Lithy's thread 7. When I was with - I think it was 8 RAR - there was a high ranking visit from a Japanese ambassador and his entourage etc etc and drinks in the Offrs mess afterwards. But there was still a lot of anti Japanese sentiment, believe me. There was a ceremonial flowering cherry(?) tree/shrub planting ceremony on the main road up from the guard room. You know the sort of thing....., chrome plated shovel and that sort of thing. Bear in mind that a lot of the ground staff and gardeners, boilermen etc etc were ex FEPOW's
Didn't last more than a few days and it was hoiked out, levelled and never seen again. Someone said that it'd gone onto a barbie. The Padre, I think he was Capt Aubrey Kerr, said on Battalion Orders that it was a sad day for the Battalion but I think he had to............ Anyway, quickly forgotten!
Never heard the phrase POLPOS LIthy. We understood that BMC stood for Bloody Mooka Crap
