Type II lockbar on a '45 Garand?
You folks may or may not remember a couple years ago I (in a state of ignorance) bought a CIA M1 Garand. Luckily I was able to trade it away for an NPM M1 Carbine. In any event I've now got my hands on a 1945 Springfield M1 Garand. At a glance it appears as your run of the mill mixmaster, but I bought it for shooting not decoration so that bothers me not.
Major parts consist of:
SA Reciever 3.5m SN range
SA Barrel marked I S-A-3-45
IHC Bolt
SA op rod
HRA trigger group
The curious thing about this rifle is the fact that it has what appears to me as a Type II lockbar sight. From what I understand, the use of the Type III sight was well underway by SN 3.5m. The wear on the sight is consistent with the rest of the rifle, so I'm inclined to believe it's original to the gun. Thoughts on this?
