Lens Cloth/Lens Tissues
This is possibly one for Peter??
I understand the Mk1 issued handkerchief saw a second life as a lens cloth for the no4 T scope and then again with the L42. Was the handkerchief replaced in the end with tissues? If so were these tissues the old "toilet paper" type in small sheets??

The tissues were simply re-packaged commercial lens cleaning tissues that came in blocks. The later ones, probably still current were even simpler too! Commercial lens cleaning tissue still in the original commercial packaging but sealed in a polythene tubular wrapper with the SSDA label stuck on! When you opened these later ones, you could only peel one tissue away at a time.
But even though these were an expense account item guess what the crunchies still insisted on using.............. Yep, dirty old oily flanelette or a variant of scochbrite!
Re the handkerchief lens cloth. Later, in the early 80's there was a similar sized cloth issued, a bit thicker and more substantial that someone said, reminded them of an oven cloth in appearance. This was more absorbent but slightly better than the old thin handkerchief type. Best of all, simple, cheap absorbent toilet or kitchen roll
