My WIN made in december 1918 has a .060 front height that was heavely filed on the both sides...
I must set the rear sight to 600 yards to be able to hit the 8'' diameter target placed at 91 yards.
What would be the correct front sight height for hitting this target with setting the rear sight to 100 yards?

The front sights are basically the same as used on the #4 mk1 Lee Enfield. The proper way to measure the sights height, is to measure from the bottom flat of the sight base (not the dovetail) to the top of the blade. The sight height is varied by the thickness of the sights base. Since the correct one for my rifle is installed, measuring it accurately was not possible. However, by "graduated eyeball" with a machinists rule, it measures .250" from bottom of base to top of blade. Sounds like the height of yours is way too tall if you need the 600 setting to get a semblance of a zero at 100m.
More information is required: to start with is your rifle fully stocked or cut down and What are you shooting - military ball, reloads or sporting Ammo?
Did the Model 1917 continue the P14 sight datums? If so a No4 front blade size number would be +0.060" taller than the equivalent 14 /17 item. So if you have a No4 "+.060" (before filing) it would be equivalent to a 14 (possibly 17)+ 0.120. I am cautious of obviously filed front blades - because filing can often follow welding (or similar)...either way a "fabed" front sight needs careful assessment! (and are cheaper to change out).
This goes some way to explain your use of "600" elevation - your point of aim on the 8" black may do the rest (you did not specify) - the '06 round has a nice flat trajectory compared to others so I would expect to use less elevation (comparatively) to raise from 100 to 600.
If the Model 1917 was also zeroed the same as the P14, it would be a zeroed at a distance way longer than other (newer) rifles @ 300 to 400 yards - giving an "aim for the belt buckle" effect for closer ranges - My P14 ladder sight does not have a setting below "200" - and from stock (issue) I have had to add a 0.060" taller front blade to get it closer for my tastes (lower POI) - it's still 8" above POA at the 200 yard range and setting with Mk7 303.
I would try a No4 -0.060 blade, 200 yard ladder setting and hold BDC on an 8" black at 100 yards and see what happens / adjust to taste...

My M1917 has the original stock, the bore is perfect and at 100m it groups fine.
I shot M2 LC 52 ammo.
It seems that the original size of the front sight was +.049, Is this true?
Easy enough . Get a dial caliper . Set your sight to 600 yards . Measure space between top of slide and bottom of crossbar at top . Write it down . Set sight to 100 yards and remeasure . Subtract 600 yd measurement from 100 yard measurement . This gives you the amount of change you need . Measure the front sight hight however you want , from base , blade hight , whatever . Add change amount from rear measurements . The new total is the hight needed for your replacement blade .Quote:
