I worked with a guy who flew a P40 and shot down an ME109 in Africa. He said he didn't even see it until it flew directly in front of him, all he had to do was pull the trigger. He never saw another one.
There's a lovely, flying P-40e down the road at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach for anyone who wants to do further research.
