Garand Newbie Need Some Help

When my grandfather passed, I inherited his collection, including this M1 Garand. Based on basic research, I've been able to determine that this was produced in 1944, I think.

What else can I do to determine value? I pretty sure the stock is aftermarket, but all the parts look original.

Markings on the side of the barrel when the op rod is pulled back... it could be worth more if the barrel is the original one.

Parts may be all original, but I am not sure about the finish. Looks almost too good to be true. Unless, of course, it was "privatized" at an early age and never really used in service, in which case, the word "jackpot" comes to mind.

Agreed. IMHO there is no such thing as a "dingless" stock on a rifle that has seen active service.

It looks a bit like Greek black.

Well, Scott Duff puts your rifle as a February of 1945, and with the barrel being a 3-45 there's a good chance it's the original barrel. I'll let the experts chime in. The fact that it has a correct barrel and still retains lockbar sights is a huge, huge plus. That being said, we now really have to know the internal parts to help you out. You may have acquired one heck of a Garand.

What's that mark under the date stamp? Yes, very nice rifle.
