French Berthier 1907/15
Auction pick up Saturday. Exterior looks pretty good but wood hiding some heavy pitting. Bore looks very good. Not "N" marked. No numbers match that I can tell. Can't read the stock numbers, too faint. Didn't even know they were there prior to cleaning. Stock was very dry and really sucks up the oil. Only has one heavy coat on it right now. Came with the bayonet. Probably overpaid on this one but not by too much.

Hello Aragorn243
that isn't a Modèle 1907-15. It is a Modèlé 1916 if it's a new fabrication or a Modèle 07-15 M16 if it is a converted Modèlé 1907-15.

Nice! We really need a French forum......

It's a converted rifle. Stamped 1907/15. Barrel date is 1916
I agree we need a French forum but we've been saying that for a while with no result. With the 100 anniversary of WWI interest in French rifles is going to go up. Prices are already reflecting that.
The wood on this rifle is very soft and when I washed it down, all the dings came out. Only thing that didn't were gouges, never saw a stock like it before. The old dings extended out beyond the current wood line. It has one repair on the right side directly under the bolt that was repaired with a reddish putty of some sort. Would this be arsenal or Bubba?

Very nice rifle. I too would like to see a French forum. Tom
