I think that the opening bid at almost $8400 was rather optimistic. After all, the scope, mount and tin were non-matching.
Last year a similar trials rifle, without accessories sold for around $3400 on Gunbroker. Add a scope, mount and tin and you are in for around $6000.
Photos 23 and 24 appear to show the Savage squared S on the rear sight and magazine follower. Guess its not such a big thing, as has been pointed out to me before, these items were changed as need by armourers.
You're dead right Brnom. It's always worth remembering that EVERY time a rifle went into an Armourers shop, it only ever went there because something was wrong with it. Just like your car when it goes into the service station! When it came in, we fixed it and if a part was needed, then we'd use the next on in the bin! If it needed a selectively fitted part, then we'd get the BEST fit and adjust that best fit part for perfection.
