BSA P14 Parker hale

Hi,
Was searching for an enfield 303 custom no4 the other day and someone offers me a BSA P14 also customized by Parker Hale. At first, I wasn't interested but since I never heard about that It caught my curiosity so ask him to send few pics. Actually the rifle look real nice and in great condition. I already have an Eddystone full military P14 but this PH customized look too nice for me to let it go lol So I bought it and she's on her way home. Id like to share the seller's pics for now and later, I can send few more. Apparently the barrel doesn't have any stamps on but the bore is shinny bright like new condition. Guess its has been rebarrel by PH ? Stock is in great shape and rilfe is drilled and tapped probably by PH, Rifle never been mounted and the screws are still on the holes. Not much stamps and markings on it Few E here and there and a W on the bolt. On the trigger guard, there is an electro penciled number : 116-545-948 Any meaning ?

Anyway, how do you like the rifle ?

Also, what mounts and scope should I put on ?

The 9 digit number is someone's social insurance number. People used to think it was a good way to prove it was their rifle. Never mind writing the rifle's serial number down... Your rifle has been completely sporterized by a gunsmith or a business that specialized in that sort of thing. They cut the barrels off and marked them as such. Parker Hale did them, Sportco, Sears, B.S.A., Eatons...on and on. If you take it to your local gun shop, they'll have a list of the mounts and rings...and they'll do it for you. You're near Ottawa, contact Elwood Epps and they'll take it from there. They aren't far from you.

Thanks for your input. Seller still have the ticket recipt and its written on P14 Parker hale, thats why I was thinkking maybe its a BSA but the facts theres no specific stamps on the barrel make me doubt now..
Elwood epps is about 6 hours drive from here. I will go see Jason Spencer at Gunco instead ;)

Parker hale didn't make the guns, either Winchester, Eddystone or Remington did. The other marks are from the overhaul. Gunco can handle it...

ParkerHale sometimes used heavy BSA barrels as did Fultons for their regulated P14s. PH and AJP also ball burnished selected military barrels, eg for a No4, barrels stamped F56 and ball burnished seem not un-common, they also did BBing to P14 barrels. If you look on the re-inforce of the barrel and see no military stamps then its a commercial barrel. If in doubt upload some pics for us.

From what I have seen of ParkerHale's work it was very thorough and of high quality engineering and finish. From the pics if I was collecting Parkerhale guns I would keep this unaltered and not attach a scope, it looks in very good nic.

Looking at your pics is it defiantly a P14? ie a 303british? eg there is a Remington model 1934. Also I think Winchester did a commercial action? For a serial number I'd expect to see a Parker Hale number on the receiver. The Wxxxxx number is heavily stamped on the rh side near the Knox and on the bolt. Parkerhale tended to grind off the military numbers (on No4s) and add their own mind you.

If it was a BSA i would expect to see the 3 rifle logo. A Pprkerhale and I'd expect to see parkerhale Birmingham on the knox.

I think you'll find if you look at the spot the rear sight was, the remnants of the rear sight. You can also see it's drilled and tapped so he's not altering anything. This isn't a heavy barrel...

Rifle should arrive this Friday. I will remove the stock and look all around for any markings. Will post pics this week-end

Got the rifle and removed the stock and found anything. Barrel has a very nice blueing thats it.
Inside the stock as well, no signature. the only piece of information I have is the butt pad. It has this info on it. Not sure if its related to the conversion tho ?

Nope, that's just the ones they used. White line recoil pads are still available.
