Picked up this T38 carbine over the weekend. Nothing particularly special about it, ground mum, blah blah..I am kind of curious about the 'double t' marking on it...can't remember ever seeing it before. Any ideas as to what it is? Also, would this be a Koishikawa, or a Kokura carbine?
It's a no series Koishikawa. Kokura's don't have the O above the ejector box or the triangle in a circle marking atop the bridge and chamber. Can't say I've seen that double t looking marking before either. They usually have an S or B there instead.
I wish I could see the marks better, but those are not T`s they are 1`s....................
Neither "T" nor "1" marks..they are a Japanese Kana Mark, usually used to signify "Inspected" ( Looks like a "T" with a slanted top.). Also seen on Cartridge clips, on the Bases of Larger calibre ammo ( 12,7mm and up), and a host of other Japanese ordnance equipment.
Early "No series" Koishikawa Carbine, probably saw China Service, given its "Ratty" condition.
