This tool was found in a lot of Enfield/Sten/Bren parts I recently acquired. There appears to be a part number of A25334 and possibly an inspectors mark with C/l\ or a large M underneath the word "muzzle" in one location. Does anyone have an idea what this tool is and what weapon it goes with? It came out of Canadian service.
Are the holes threaded?
They do not appear to be, and the tool is made of brass, so if it is a drill guide I would think it would not have had a long service life. It almost looks like some kind of guide for inserting a roll pin or drift pin.
What is the diameter of the large hole?
The "M" in an oval must be the maker's trademark.
Upon looking at the item I realized it looked similar to the brass block that rides between the breech opening handle and the breech block of my 105 howitzer. I also thought that the little circle and squiggles over the oval and M could be the flaming bomb. So I posted it on another forum that covers artillery, and someone there ID'd it as likely being the breech block crossheads off the 76mm Sheman tank gun. I checked my copy of TM9-808 "76mm guns M1A1C and M1A2" and sure enough it does appear to be from that application. There were a few other Sherman items not far from where this was found.
