Bought a beautiful lighter with a unit badge on it made from two 37mm gun cases dated 1941, that I didn't know anything about. They clearly carried out a lot of operations in WW2. There is a Silver King George 3P piece buried in it too!
Anybody in Canada got anything specific on 2 CACR other than what is on Wikipedia generally please or point me to any sources??

2nd Canadian Armoured Car Regt. was a Milita Regiment of the Canadian Armoured Corps from Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada... they however along with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons and the Manitoba Mounted Rifles formed the 18th Armoured Car Regiment (12th Manitoba Dragoons) the 18th ACR were equipped with Staghound Armoured cars with a 37mm main gun. I'm afraid my knowledge is limited as well however the 12th Manitoba Dragoons museum has some materials on the 2nd armoured car I'll go looking and see what I can find as well.

It was over this side of the pond on an auction site. I appear to be drawn to items with individual history surrounding them such as this.
I also picked up a similar item from 1917 another lighter made out of anti aircraft cases with the Royal Flying Corps badge on the lid all in brass, a beautiful item.
Its the same with both of these items, there has been a lot of skill used in down time between sorties by individuals, and it is an honour to have in my hand someones passion and toil.
New flint in one topped up with lighter fule and off she went,the second one, is taxing my engineering skills slightly, but one expect that, when it has been made by tankies!!
I suppose me collecting these is a bit like us all collecting seasoned vintage rifles I suppose and wanting to know each ones individual history.
As I have said in the past on numerous threads, how great if each weapon had individuals names behind their respective history, and how we all seek the person to corroberate its life??
I'm glad that it is being looked and cared for after even if it is a pain in the a** knowing some of the fellows from the regiment I'm not surprised! I've forwarded the pictures to one of the fellows that served with the 18th ACR during the Second World War so he might have some more information than myself.
If you ever are willing to part with it the museum would gladly find a place for it in the collection. Also the Tank Museum in Bovington has a copy of the 12th Manitoba Dragoons Scrapbook made up by the regiment as well as some footage filmed by the men of the regiment if your interested in it.
