Gun show rescue today

Hi guys wa set up at local show this week end. This rifle which i believe is a springfield 1903 was rescued off another table. Seam this guy never sold at a show before an was selling off his uncles stuff. My son spotted this with a 200.00 tag an can an ask if he could buy it. He made the deal for 100.00 last aprt of show so i had to go along with sale even if he bought a lemon, Want to teach him what little i know. (stepson) anyway reciever is scrubbed an looks like serial number is reapplyed. frount sight looks like a winchechest model 70. rear looks like a 94 winchested peep looks lyman. stock is thinned down but still a p incircle on it. butt plates looks liek a n winchester. what did i rescue guys i only own 1 springfield. if more pics are needed ask thanks mike

The rear sight is a Redfield 102 sight. The serial number looks to be restamped. This is a low number receiver.

Now you know you probably shouldn't shoot that one? Low number and all?

yes jim maybe i should just box it up an you could use all the parts you need then you can pass it along. :rofl::rofl:
mark1 a redfield is a good thing too. i didnt realy look at it just wiped it down as its been 3 long days at the show.
plus side my stepson is learning how an when to make a deal, i dont think he got burned.

Ouch!, That hurts my eyes to look at. Take a look at the bolt markings, the bolt might have some value as well as the milled trigger guard. Salt Flat

If you don't part it, it'd be a good candidate to teach your son or yourself refinishing. The wood, metal the whole nine yards, nothing to lose.

thanks alot guys i know bubba did a fine job on this one. to me it looks like it was a c stock? Trigger guard is milled an he did not mess with that. bore looks good little dark but might clean up. rifling looks kinda light to me. will try an get some better pictures. Why would they buff off the name area? I can understand serial number change if that what happened. Going to make a chamber cast to make sure what caliber it realy is too. thanks for all the help. mike
