I have a lithgow smile that has the front sight pinned. What do you guys recommend I do about this. Its shooting nice groups just they are 4 inchs to the right. The only idea i have is to take a hammer to it, but I'm afraid of permanent damage. Suggestions?
You're question is just too ambiguous to andswer........ What is pinned? The actual FORESIGHT or the foresight BLOCK? The foresight block is longitidinally keyed and pinned to the barrel whereas ther actual foresight is just a friction fit in the dovetail.
At what range is this 4" error?
You've just mentioned getting a hammer to it, so we've immediately fallen out big time.................
Aim 4" to the left - no need to make any modifications to the rifle.

If you tap your foresight back to where it was staked, it will probably be correct.
Its not moving, thats what Im trying to figure out. Im afraid to move past tapping.
I have had success squeezing at the level of the sight block, carefully, with a pair of pliers / vice-grip. Seems to give a lot of control. Protect the sight from the jaws leaving a mark by interposing a piece of brass or copper.
Sometimes a small machinist's hammer or tack hammer doesn't do it and that's what leaves marks.Quote:
