It's amazing to me how little of that gear made it into the drop zone.

I think it made it to the drop zone just not as intended
The 'old soldier' in me has me wondering how many of those whose faces I am seeing 70+ years later lived to see the sunset the next day. It is something I experience each time I see a picture of the D-Day invasion troops taken before embarkation. Knowing the high casualty rate experienced by US Airborne forces between 0001Z and 0600Z on 6 June 1944 alone ......
I know it was before my time but thank god for all involved as thanks for my way of life would not be.
