I have put nearly 300 rounds since purchasing my Russian SKS and have yet to disassemble and clean the bolt. I tried a week ago to disassemble the bolt by hammering out the ping but it won't budge. Anyone experienced with SKS bolt disassembly what can I try?
Get yourself a bigger hammer and a stout punch. It should come out with minimal force unless there's corrosion, nothing else is in the way.
I can't imagine why you'd want to strip an SKS bolt...there's nothing to go wrong in there. Does it work? If so then oil and leave it...
Yes it works, but I thought fouling gets into the bolt through the firing pin. There's no maximum life span for cleaning the bolt? I thought if it gets dirty, the firing pin can get stuck forward and unintentionally cause a full auto SKS.
After only 300rds? Nah, if it's moving freely your good. It is best practice though to clean the firing pin channel on a "new" SKS because cosmoline can cause the FP to stick or be sluggish. Again though it shouldn't be hard to remove the FP retainer,,,
You could clean the grease too by using boiling water. I never took an SKS bolt apart and I put lots through them. The FP should be free moving anywayzzz...
Probably have at least 3,000 ++ surplus/corrosive thru one of ours and have never done anything special in cleaning the bolt. Spray it well after every use and shake, firing pin rattles all is good to go.
Go to U Tube for SKS. They will tell you how to assemble, dissemble, the SKS and some things you should not know
