SMLE Mk 1 cocking piece
I have a Mk1 cocking piece that has been 'molested' and on 'our site' there is a cocking pice that is missing its striker locking knob , the little spring loaded one. my piece still has the knob in good order.
Is it possible to get the knob out and replaced? has anyone done this operation?
TIA

From your description I assume you are talking about this little beast
Attachment 60529
From memory, having pulled it down once many years ago, the knob is pulled to the rear to disengage the lock on the striker, allowing the striker to be unscrewed. Then, from the inside, I think you can see a screw slot in the retaining screw....
If you can give me until tomorrow (unless somebody else has a definitive answer in the meantime) I will have a fresh look at it.

Yep, unscrew from the front of the cocking piece once its dismounted from the bolt, expect to use light heat to get the thread to free itself from the hardened oil that will be locking it in place.
Pics a bit big so stand back from the screen a bit!!

Thats it, I cleaned a century of gak out of the front of the retainer pin and there was the slot for a screwdriver.
Thanks guys
