FN 1949 Questions
Not sure if I'm in the correct subforum or not for this question. If not please move it, moderators.
I have what I believe to be a Egyptian FN 1949. But I am not sure. Can anyone help me learn more about it?
Is there a way to tell when and where it was made?
Is it likely chambered for 8mm?
Will it handle current commercial 8mm ammo or does it need a particular milsurp ammo?
(Also I just inherited what I think Is a Egyptian Hakim, what subforum should I post questions to learn more about it?)

Yes, it looks Egyptian, yes, it should be 8mm. Standard 8mm Mauser will do. There's a forum here for general discussion... Milsurps General Discussion Forum
Nice looking rifle by the way. Looks about new.

The Hakim I believe is also 8MM and is the direct copy of the Swedish Ljungman in 6.5x55.

Yes, I think the FN 1949 is little used also. Another gun that I inherited from my Dad. He had so many I was not aware of it. Did not realize I was headed into 8mm territory. Not sure I want to spend money on ammunition in yet another rifle caliber. Still now I find myself with three 8 mils. This, the Hakim, and the Polish Mauser. Don't think I can bring myself to sell them at the moment or probably ever. I will post pictures of the Hakim in the Milsurps General Discussion Forum. Have a few questions on it also.
