30-40 krag/ 165gr ranch dog/ 190gr legacy
i finally got my sporterized 30-40 krag out and i shot some loads. pictures look like c$#p, but your dealing with a stroke-abled guy who can not seem to draw with his left hand!!! i've been using a scope now for 20+ years, it was a little odd for me to start using open sights. i have, thank the Lord, 20/15 in the left eye and 20/20 in the right. i don't know HOW they did/do it(young and full of pep in the 1900s), but for this guy its going to be a redfield 102k (that i bought) peep sight.
everything was shot at 50 yards.

i took 20 rounds out because i had to sight it in. rounds 1 and 2 shot the bottom of the paper. 3 was real high. 4 as you can see was up a little bit. 5 and 6 were low and to the right. 7 and 8 are a little high and left. 9 and 10 almost there, but high and left. 11 and 12(i don't know what i was doing?) low. 13 and 14 a little to the right. 15, 16 -17 are almost on.
the first 3, i had my sights way to high, i think 500yards, and them boolits just kept goin!!! alright, they didn't. they stuck in the dirt bank past the target. i couldn't believe how good the ranch dogs were. i've got a couple of more powders, but i think i'm going to stay with h4198.

this one has me befullded(sp?). now, it did kick. not enough to hurt me but you knew it was there. i did not, i mean DID NOT
move the sights. i fudged #1 up. 2 was a little low, 3 was still a little low. 4, 5 -6...well, i went to drink a cup of coffee, more likely two or three. i knew that they kicked somewhat...but this.......grrrrrrrr.
i calmed down somewhat. then i put the next rounds 7,8,9-10 down range. i pick up the old binos and....right in the middle!!! don't know how, don't know why....it just is.
i think i am going to stay with the 165gr ranch dogs. less kick is what is selling for me. i thought this would take awhile, getting open sights, but the old army training kicked in and i don't do half as bad as i thought i did. well, until i start at 100 yards!!!
