Last weeks purchases
I had a pretty good week last week. Won three uncommon items in online auctions and all arrived over a two day span.
The first is a SVT-40 bayonet that had a fine coat of rust on the exposed metal which basically just wiped off to nice bluing underneath. I don't think it was ever issued. It has more marks on it than any bayonet I've seen. I believe it is an Izhevsk.
The second is an M1 carbine jeep scabbard. Nice condition but missing one of the two spring clips. Shows only light use.
The third is an M1 Garand jeep scabbard. This is a little on the rough side. Leather is solid but it's missing one of it's straps. Also has two holes drilled though the slide protector. Trying to figure out how to repair them. Thinking of tapping and screwing two brass bolts through and filing them down after soldering in place. A lot of work, not sure if it would work or be beneficial. This one is well used, has wear and seems to be soaked in saddle soap.
If anyone has an extra strap or clip sitting around let me know.

Leave the Garand scabbard alone. Nothing to be gained by playing with the 2 holes.

Very nice scores. All I found was a Mossberg 44US magazine and some unusual 1945 dated what I was told are M1 Garand sling pads.

Saw a re-enactors jeep today and he had both types of scabbard mounted to it. He only had one clip on the Garand and none on the carbine. I talked with him about it and he said that's how he always saw them mounted. The straps were directly fastened around the mirror post and tightened similar to a belt would be. The top strap with clip was wrapped around and clipped to the side strap ring. Perhaps the clips are primarily for horse gear?
