Might be of interest if you want a wooden box. I also spotted a canvas case for a 32 scope and a lot of 'snipper' scopes whilst having a quick browse.

So if I understand the seller correctly he also had the rifle, but now sells the chest seperately.
I happen to be familiar with this one. The rifle and chest were owned for many years by a shooter. On his death, the rifle (and non-matching No.32 Mk.2 scope) was placed with a dealer and subsequently found a new owner, but the chest was not found until over a year later. The chest was first offered to the new rifle owner so that the two could be kept together, but the offer was declined; hence the chest has appeared in public auction.
I don't understand why someone would not want the chest that went with his rifle. In the case of these, sets are worth more than separate pieces.
Perhaps after paying the price for the rifle the guy would have to sell another kid for the box. Probably thought long and hard about it!
To think that 8 -10 years ago I saw a pile of them in a Govt surplus store in Oxford, advertised as 'handy carpenters tool boxes' at £8 each! Plus Bren chests too
Chest sold for £1390.00 !!! wonder how many of the "handy carpenters tool box" are still buried at the back of a garage or shed.
NoBS Dave & I rescued 19 of them from rotting in Edna Parker's back garden about 7 or 8 years ago. Still have most of 'em as restoration projects, although have done a few. They're in an awful state but are all restorable with enough TLC, & if this is the 'new' price for a transit chest we certainly will be making a little effort. (Tongue in cheek, I'm mindful of that other fleabay aberration, the 1100 quid L42 lens brush container).
Certainly a top up to the pension Rog
