Hello,
I was out at a LGS and was looking at some no4's they had. One was in decent shape for a decent price, however I saw something unusual. The S/n was AN61XX, with no 1-3 5th digit (it was all matching) and I was wondering who made it?? (Its dated 1943)

Most likely a Maltby, which had AN prefix serial numbers in 1943
And if it is a Maltby there will be an M preceding the date.
Nothing to do with Maltby. It's a BSA. BSA had 4 digit serial numbers until very late '43 - early '44, when they went to a 5 digit format beginning with a 3. Maltby serial numbers begin with a 1 and Fazakerley serial numbers (WWII No.4s) begin with a 2...both with 5 digits.
