unmarked walnut stock on Imported M1 Carbine?

Well the stock actually does have a couple of small "D-6" markings on it - one in the sling slot and one on the bottom of the pistol grip. Otherwise, it has none of the typical markings that I would expect to see on a US rebuilt rifle stock.

This one has the early Interarms import mark so I guess it came back from Europe or Germany in the late 70's early 80's. It still has the early push button safety, non-"M" marked mag release, but has the later adjustable rear sight and T4 front band.

My question is...was the stock likely replaced overseas? Is that why it doesn't have the typical acceptance stamps? Why doesn't it have a maker's mark? I thought the stocks were typically marked.

It's just a normal M2 potbelly replacement stock. Some are marked. Some aren't.

So some of the M2 stocks were not marked by the manufacturer.

What about rebuild marks? I understand that if the carbines were rebuilt in a US facility, they were marked as such. Would the lack of rebuild marks indicate this one was rebuilt in a foreign country?

Right, but stocks replaced at smaller unit level workshops wouldn't, AFAIK.

Interesting carbine, as an early import compared to late. Tough to tell from the pics, but is it original finish on the metal? All Inland parts?

Yes, the finish on the barrel and receiver look original and the bolt is "OI" marked. I know the trigger housing is marked with the "INLAND" logo but I haven't gone through each piece, yet. I suspect it's a rebuild, just wondering if it was rebuilt in a foreign Country.

Those are US issue parts.

Appears to be refinished to me, which would be expected.

Could be. I think this one and the Underwood both with through at least one arsenal/depot rebuild at some point. I still wonder if this one would have been rebuilt (with US supplied parts) overseas prior to import.
