My Mauser 1942 Luger
This is the first Luger I've owned. Always wanted one but they were generally more than I wanted to pay. Found this luger a cheap price but it was plated.

I stripped the luger of all plating and reblued her to get the look I wanted. I know the bluing isnt what it was originally but I figured that ship sailed when someone plated this gun.

Ive had issues with the gun not cycling (bad main spring), then failing to reliably eject (ejector not having enough tension), and finally the gun going full auto (weak trigger bar spring).
Now I finally can shoot her with three mags and no failures.
Ive had a lot of fun figuring these things out, maybe someday Ill have the gun restored. But I like my shooter

Looks great now. Well done, and you've just gone through the same things we have...in the past.
-
Im happy with it now. Its a great shooter. All the parts match including the mag.
-
-
How did you strip the plating, electrolysis, chemically or other? Nicely done, Tom
-
Electrolysis. Took a 5-10 dip in the tank and the plating was gone. It took me more time to disassemble the gun than it did to remove the plating.

Very nice, I have a lot of fun with mine. I get yelled at all the time for shooting it, apparently all old guns are supposed to live in a case and never be fired. I did replace the firing pin, and extractor and kept the original numbered parts safely in the drawer

I had to put a shim, soda can thickness, onto the top of the trigger "box". Now the trigger is much better. The pivot lever now positively operates the trigger bar whereas before I would get a 10% failure of the trigger not releasing the striker.
Old war guns are fun to tinker with and get back into reliable shooting condition

I bet the full auto was fun!

I have access to a legal machinegun so I dont need full auto on a pistol. When it would automatically empty the mag, pulling the toggle back and letting it go also fired the weaopn.
The gun was dangerous. Its all fixed now and the gun cycles reliable and in only semi-auto mode!
