General question, no pictures yet should have some tomorrow.
Dealer has the following:
1) In cosmoline and brown paper, nice blue finish, all Eddystone parts except 3-18 Remington barrel. Stock & metal is perfect, bore like new. Asking 850.00
2) 100% correct Eddystone 1-18 on E barrel. Nice wood, bore excellent. 650.00
Based on the above what's the better buy?

Off the top I would go for #2. What is it's finish? does the 1-18 date correlate with the receiver serial #.
#2 has been parked, the barrel seems to match. RA-P cartouche. These just came in, the dealer was planning to clean them up and get back to me with any other findings and hopefully some pictures.Quote:

#2 in addition to the RA-P also has an AAZ behind the RA-P. Does anyone have in formation on what the AAZ would represent?
Agusta Arsonal . The rifle ( or at least the stock ) has been through two rebuilds .

Eddystone started to parkerize Sept of 1918,pior to that a browning process.
AA = Augusta Arsenal. "Z" is the inspector's initial. The rifle hasn't necessarily been through rebuild twice but has been rebuilt, (probably at Raritan Arsenal), and inspected and marked accordingly twice. I'm guessing inspection only at Augusta before being put into long term storage but I could be wrong. I have M1 rifles in my own collection that are pretty much original but sport the AN = Anniston Arsenal inspectors stamp so were inspected/marked before going into storage.
I've pulled the trigger on:
#2 An all matching Eddystone Ser# 4490XX with a 3-18 barrel which looks like a correct time frame for the production. Also has the RA-P AAZ cartouches for 650.00.
