I think the one on the left is a panther also. The twin exhausts are similar to the other one
Could an M24 knock out a Panther?
I do not think it could as the Panther had the high velocity 75mm gun and good armor and could dictate the course of the engagement though the American tank was pretty fast across the terrain the Chaffee's glacis plate was only 25mm think sloped to provide the maximum protection I would say a heavy TD unit did the initial and the Chaffee's moping up.
I am reading a book on the Tiger its flaws and how it was used in all the wrong ways - in one battle against the Soviets in the offensive role it had a 36.6 - 1 kill ratio and defensively 27 - 1 kill ratio the book is called Sledgehammers pretty good stuff, by the way they also used the Tiger to clear minefields by tracking over them how bizare is that, they had no funnies like the allies besides this was all before the 6th June 1944
The Panther looks like it was firing to its rear, maybe preparing to shoot and scoot. The back is a lot weaker than the front.
Yes, that's an "A" frame. The whole front of the hull is hinged up too.
With capture imminent I should say they have been destroyed by their crews and with a forest close by try escape on foot they had nothing to lose as it was over by then anyway.
