Thoughts on sighting in an offset scoped rifle

There should be some standard for how to sight in a rifle with an offset scope, such as the Garand sniper versions. Elevation is no problem, but should windage be set parallel to the bore or set to cross over the sight path at some point? Were snipers taught to change windage settings based on wind/distance or just use a bit of holdover to compensate? Or was the whole issue subject to the individual as to setup? This forum is a wonder for answering the odd question so thanks in advance, John McP

Dunno, but the only way I ever got one on target was to sand bag it down, bore sight it, then adjust the scope to match. I'm guessing you then have to adjust windage for all distances.

I doubt the 0.5" of offset is enough to worry about at any practical range. If you sight it in to hit 0.5" left at 100 yards is should still hit 0.5" left at 1,000 yards if shooting in a vacuum. I have a K31 with the same issue (except it is offset to the right) and I never sight it in to cross at any distance. In the real non vacuum world, that 0.5" is trivial when compared to wind, gravity, spin offset etc.

I sight in on a 3 inch bull at 100 and have the vertical scope hairs clip the 9-oclock edge . Close enough for minute of M1 / M84 accuracy . Once you get out past a few 100 yards , that little bit is nothing in the 2.2 power crosshairs .
