I tried to post this in Swotty's thread on .410 conversions but the photos didn't take. Note barrel and receiver are one piece. Bolt and safety lever cocking piece design is common with Long Lee Enfield, Charger Loading Rifles.

Nice pics and it's always good to see info on these old shotguns about - people forget how ubitquous single-shot .410 and 12ga guns used to be.
For what it's worth, measuringworth.com says 42/6 from 1912 (I had to guesstimate the publication date) is equivalent to £187.90 today. Seems pretty reasonable to me!
I still use a .410 as a garden gun - but I don't live in a city as 80% of population does.
These are lovely little shotguns. The shame is that many were made with 23" barrels, whih means that under today's rules they are classed as section 1 firearms rather than section 2 shotguns. Cosequently many have been surrendered for destruction, or in the early days were just refused certificates and confiscated. They are now not very common at all, unlike the Webley .410's, most of which (all?) were supplied with 24"+ barrels, and are still very common.
Are you certain the action and barrel are one single piece? The ones I have examined seem like one piece to me--I could not see any seam separating barrel and receiver. However, other knowledgeable folks have sworn that they are two pieces, and even that worn out Lee Enfield barrels were used! So, I began to wonder if my eyes were bad...
Wouldn't it require more difficult machining to make them one piece rather than two?
I'd welcome an additional opinion/observation on the matter.
In the 20's, Savage made .30-06 and .22 rifles with one piece receiver and barrel. The advantage was elimination of threading operations and problems with aligning the barrel sights and extractor cut outs. Definitely a cost save.
I can't speak for what ever your "knowledgeable folks" saw but mine does not have a seam by sight, finger nail and use of a penetrating oil to see if it would wick into the seam.
That right there is a thing of beauty. I would LOVE to have one. Never seen one here in the USA.
They aren't very common. I've had two in 25 years. They are a nice little "walk the farm" gun".
