Pelosi to meet black lawmakers on D.C. vote By Mike Soraghan

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has agreed to meet with the Congressional Black Caucus to hear their concerns about a gun amendment that is holding up consideration of a House seat for the District of Columbia, according to Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.).

In a statement released Friday, Norton said she was contacted by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), chairwoman of the CBC, who said she’d had an “extensive conversation” with Pelosi about the “D.C. vote” bill.

“The CBC is particularly concerned about the National Rifle Association’s assault on a civil rights bill, and with maintaining the unity of the Democratic Caucus on civil rights issues,” Norton said in her statement. “The call from Barbara made my day.”

It’s not clear what the CBC can do to resolve the situation. The D.C. vote bill is currently in the hands of centrist Democrats who support gun rights and seek the backing of the NRA.

Those centrists would likely vote with Republicans to add an NRA-backed amendment to the D.C. vote bill that would wipe out most of the district’s gun laws.

If that happens, liberals would probably vote to kill the bill.

Republicans who don’t like giving the district a House seat would probably join them, defeating the bill.

After scheduling the bill for a vote this week, Democratic leaders put off the bill indefinitely.

Not exactly sure how old this article is, I thought I read earler this week that it's on hold indefinitely.

My thinking on this is that those trying for more gun control laws are going slow right now. With the Heller decision lurking, with the thought of 1994 in the minds of some, and with so many other problems on everyone's minds, there is no clamoring for more gun control, or a Semi Auto Assault Weapons Ban, at this time.

It is hard getting any info on the gun issue, no talk shows are even mentioning it, soon as I see someone bring it up on FOX, CNN, or MSDNC, usually before they break for a commercial, it turns out to be small talk. The gun industry isn't saying much either.

One last thought. I caught on Cam and Edwards radio the replay of Wayne Lapierre's speech to CPAC last week and it was SEN-sational. Almost brought me to tears. If anyone can see a transcript of it, or a video, don't miss it. There is a reason he gets the big bucks. He earns it.

There are going to be real constitutional problems with a D.C. Representative in the House. The District is not a state and there is no provision for a non-state to have representation. If D.C. could have a representatitive why not Guam or Puerto Rico. There was an attempt to ammend the Constitution years ago to give the District of Colombia a representative but it failed miserably. I saw a national Rasmussen Poll the other day to the effect that about 60% oppose a representative for D.C. There will be lawsuits if the bill passes and there are real questions that the law would stand. Another problem is that it would be unacceptable for there to be an even number of house members. If D.C. gets a member someone else would have to. I understand that Utah is the next state in line to pick up a seat but I guarantee there will be politicking about that too.

The next problem would be if the representative part is unconstitutional would the repeal of the D.C. gun laws stand?????

Refreshing to hear someone tell the News media when they are wrong. Even if they believe they are above the truth. How can we get more of this out to the people of this country?
