I started Netflix so the wife and I could continue the Longmire series, currently I'm watching Foyle's War which is set in Hastings during the Battle of Britain.
My son has NF, cheap at 8.00/month and that includes all the programs available. IIRC they raised it a dollar for new subscribers recently but still a super bargain.
I have watched it a bit however he rarely watches regular tv now. There was a time when the US offerings (programs) were better however there was a way of registering that you lived in the US and you could get those programs in Canada. I think now they are pretty much identical in both countries so no longer a need to do that.
NF has killed the movie rental industry and this was predicted many years ago, people no longer want to drive to rent a movie.
It's killing bundled cable too as it should. My cable, phone "which we don't use" and internet access cost me $226 a month!!! That's a car payment!!! Outrageous yes, but the wife wants to watch her shows. If I could I'd dump bundled cable in a heartbeat.
Like you my phone and satellite tv costs are now to the point of outrageous and it is time to do something about it. In Canada I know the cable companies are concerned as their numbers are dropping and NF is gaining in popularity. I think there are over 3.5 million NF subscribers in Canada.
