SMLE Mk5 trials rifleAttachment 67031
SMLE No1 Mk V........ to be correct, you won't see many rear sights as spares etc apart from the Aperture part, most are destroyed when folk try and remove them.
Brings a tear to my eye as I handed over my Mk V to its new owner yesterday but its gone to a good home, sad start of the day for me and a good day for him. Although a phone call not long after, to enquire about a rifle turned out a lot better than expected so the smile soon returned.
Ahhh, no.
The nomenclature change that made the MkIII rifle the Rifle, No1 MkIII did not occur until May 1926, two years after the end of production of the MkV. Then, being an "experimental" rifle, the MkV had never been announced in the List of Changes, it was not a production weapon so it did not exist for the purpose of the nomenclature changes. It remains the Sht LE MkV.
I hope that you antipodeans are looking after my son as well as you all looked after me many years ago Son. He's out there working for a year after Uni.......
Thanks Son, my mistake was reading about the No. 2 Mk. IV* which was a ShtLE Mk. IV ConD. plus other .22 conversions...... more to do with the Hiscock Parker magazine
" Magazine, .22" Rifle, Mk.I " if thats correct ?
