337/1940
I came across this 337/1940 all matching rifle....but...(There always seems to be a big..BUT....) The stock has a heavy coat of varnish applied to it. Also there is no visible inspection marks on the stock yet appears to show no signs of sanding. After taking it apart the channel has a matching number and the cross bolt is proofed 221 and the take down washer is proofed 18. After reading Law's book, he shows in the data sheet for 1940 that only the serial number should be on the spine of the stock. After a few phone calls and reading the Mauser rifle column(s) it seems that a lot more information has surfaced to guide the collector since this book was published. So,this rifle has about sixty to seventy % finish, the bore is bright and clean. No rod or sling.Any thoughts...Good, bad value???
