I have this old round...
Well, actually, six of 'em, left by my father. Each has six flutes around the neck. They are headstamped :
FA 1 13
FA 2 13
FA 3 13
FA 5 13 (x2)
FA 7 13
If I am right, that means they are Frankford Arsenal 1913 loads. I have no idea what the single number designates but have read THIS site and think these may be "gallery rounds." Sorry I couldn't get any better pics, especially of the headstamp, but iPhones are reducing us to photo-idiots. Here's an overall:

I did a google on them and looked at the pics they are what appears to be Gallery rounds so your correct there Bob any chance of a pic of the base.
Looking at that one it appears to have a crack in the neck running in line with the indent.

Thanks for the heads-up on the crack! I noticed another one has it as well. I'm glad I had no plans to shoot these. Here's a pic of the base:
