Got this oiler a while back. Pictured next to an II for comparison. OAL is 2.355" and dia. is .45. I can't remember if I saw an article in the Carbine Club a few years back, but I could swear I did. Fits perfect in the Inland 5 digit. Any thoughts? Thanks, Bruce.
I have never seen one like that before. Wide cap, I don't know what it was originally made for.
Basically that article, if I am remembering correctly, stated that an original I shaped oiler had never been found, even on the very earliest carbines. It would be interesting to know what someone did here as that cap marking looks familiar.Quote:

A Krag oiler body is nickel-plated, approx. 3.260" long, and .460" diameter.
Pictures of the cap/applicator and open end would be helpful.

In the 4th picture, the body of the oiler looks swelled where the cap threads in. Will it unscrew, or is it pressed in place? - Bob
The 4th pic is distorted, and it unscrews fine with no taper to the body nor any bulges. I'll send further pics tonight. There was another article that had one in it had pictures, I thought, but I couldn't find it. Are there markings on the cap of the Krag oiler?
By all indications, this oiler has not been cut down or modified in any way. The flair on the body where the cap seats is even and the finish is un-interrupted. The gasket is leather. Thanks for the input. Cheers, Bruce.
How thick is the leather gasket?
CrossedCannons, the leather gasket is inset in to the screw cap. Hopefully you can see it in the pix. More pix below. Also, compared the knurling on the Krag cap and mine and it is different. Thanks, Bruce.
