Range day Collie West Au
A friend and I went up to have a zeroing session today and boy it was pretty hot under the tin roof but thankfully a breeze came in at noon and cooled us a bit.
I was playing with some 160gn Hornady RN in my 6.5 x 284 for a hunt we have planned up the NW (has been a gradual formation of 7 years talking about it :confused:)
I was using AR 2217 52.5gns and an OAL of 2.980" Fed 210 Match primer Lapua case Range 100M BR front rest with a bag rear.
The oblong shoot and see target a patched round (sighter) at @7:00 o'clock adjusted the scope and put the 3 next rounds into that group very tidy indeed very happy with that. Also view the clay target I had hanging at 214yds the 160RN from the 6.5/284 just punched a hole through it so I did the same to another same result.
I then shot another hanging next to it with a 168gn .308 A Max and it just vaporized the clay how does this work and any explanations out there.
With the other smaller targets I was using my APRS (Ace Precision Rifle Systems) .308 with 168gn Hornady A Max off a bi-pod & rear bag at 100M.
Target 1 (Left) the group to the rt was first then adjusted the scope and fired the second string the flier was me the first shot went straight through the center diamond. (The circle is 25mm)
I have not changed the load they supplied with the rifle and it consistently shoots like this all day. It is to heavy to carry around the paddocks so I have calibrated the load to this scope and have range cards from 100m - 1000m in 10m increments. Having tried it with cold bore shots to 500m with very good results of connecting with the first shot providing I dope the conditions correctly.
Spec's of the APRS;
G prefix Rem - 700 blueprinted action, Action/Brl Ceracoated, Basix trigger, 26"match grade Kreiger barrel profile No.7, Wildog thumbhole stock, 0MOA rail, NF rings, 15-55 NF with FCR-1 reticule.
This was the last of the Remington actions they did up and was a test platform before going to the Stiller action it had been languishing in their safe when they advertised it and when I saw it "well your mine."

I remember the power station in Collie, was working there on a shutdown, never got to see the town as I was on nights and had digs on a caravan site, the end of the week trip from Collie back to to Rockingham eventually took its toll when I come off my bike......

Had a close one or two with birds (human type (so I was told) ), the only real memory was riding back on two occasions and the difference in the evening and early morning, one evening I was covered in fly's had to stop every few miles to clean the headlamp and my visor, the next was a morning after my shift finished around 5am, frozen to the bone, as I had all my gear with me got a few hot drinks down me and gradually thawed out in my sleeping bag..... once the Sun appeared carried on.......
I would have had a good chance at the time to get a permanent job there after the shutdown was complete they were on the lookout for some marine Engineers to run and maintain the plant...... after coming off the bike it changed a lot of plans etc, at the time had a job offer in a mine up north but had to give it a miss due to injuries ( the bike was fine)
