TURQUEVILLE Many 101st troopers were dropped far from their initial DZ’s. Like Wilbur W. Shanklin facing, here, a Germanicon prisoner. They are on the road between Ste-Mere-Eglise and Audouville-la-Hubert

Perhaps one instance where it was good to be on the sharp end. Odds of survival higher than the one holding the rifle.
FRANK - your post are appreciated - some of your last few I have never seen before.
I try to avoid reposts unless I can add to the story
there are 5 years of Garand eye candy posted here
Mark, There sure are....I been looking, but when I post a picture here then pick up were I left off I see it later, but must have missed the last couple. I really like the stories and details you add. What Marine does not like details. There some Great pics on the USMC Forums, but I usually hang out with the Battalion I served in.

Finger on trigger, bayonet at chest. No words necessary.
"You here bitte. Ok soldier where's your bayonet? gotta have a bayonet in the picture.... hold it (click), wait while I change the film holder... yeah another good angle (click), no stay there while I change the film holder... one more (click) these are great shots. OK you can take this guy back to the S-2."
It's definitely a staged photo. The paratrooper has already knicked the German's water bottle and bayonet which are visible just below his jump smock hem. The rest of the German's kit appears to be dumped on the ground between them.
