M1 Stamp Markings

Good Evening All,

I would like to get straightened out with the "Winchester or IH or HR... "A"O" X"CM" markings .Everyone seems to be selling Win A parts. Someone clue me in please!! Thank you.:surrender:

Would some explain what different markings are supposed to go with which maker( Win, HR etc.) A O X CM.
It seems as no matter the marking it's a Winchester part
I"m confused. :surrender:
In Billy Pyles book there is a statment that the A is not a Winchester mark alone.

Please clue me in!

Exactly part is it you are looking for?? Notr all parts are marked, there are specific differences to look for. Need more information in order to answer your question

I'm not looking for any specific part.
I guess what I was asking is...... if a part has an " A" stamp is it a Winchester part? or an "X" a IHC part and so on.

Letters alone mean nothing

Those are inspection marks...

Parts marked with an A are usually Winchester, and signify Amola, a substitute steel that required a slightly different heat treatment than regular steel. SA experimented with it around 1938, a few very early Springfield parts like the trigger were marked A, but they are rare. IHC also began marking parts with letter lots late in production, so you can find some late parts with letters from A to about G. You have to look at other characteristics to determine whose they are.
