Mystery rear sight - HELP?

Gentlemen,

I have a couple of rear sights here that I am trying to figure out what they were used on, and I am coming up empty. They are marked F320-7674130 and appear to have been packaged at Raritan Arsenal(?) in July 1955. The base has a threaded hole and looks like it moves in a dovetail for windage. Any idea of what these sights might have been used on?

57mm Recoilless rifle , if I recall correctly.

Oddly enough I cannot find a single image of an M-18 with this sight on it. 99% of the pictures I have found show the optical sight mounted, and the scarce few that do have iron sights attached are much larger and more complex. :dunno:

The sight I have is only 2-1/8 inches long, and 3/4 inch wide.

Yes , that part has to be removed to allow the scope to mount .
My M18 has a scope on it now and I can't recall where I stashed the leaf part to compare !

picture #4 is a good over head shot .
Your little part is just in front of the round hole and the screw sticking out passes through your block and out the near side of the bracket . Your part rides in a dove-tailed cut in that bracket . The scope mounts in the square-ish slot in front and then stabs into the round hole in the rear .
I think I was wrong about it having to be removed to mount the scope - I have just have removed mine for some reason .

Ahhh..... well, there is my problem right there! :bash:

I had no idea that leaf fit's into that huge sight block. The #4 picture in the link you posted makes that much clearer. The other pictures I had Googled up didn't have any clear views of the sight block at all, and I had assumed it was all one very large elaborate sighting device.

I'm just a small arms collector myself, so not knowing what this sight was made for was driving me nuts. I'm still learning new things every day and hitting road blocks like this just makes me more determined to find the answer. Thankfully, now I'll be able to sleep again. :D
