CMP C stock fitment

Hey guys, new member here. I have a Springfield 1903 and recently acquired a new CMP C stock. The original stock that came with the rifle had the typical crack stemming from the rear tang through the wrist of the stock. The last thing I want is to have the new stock develop a crack the first time I shoot it. I test fit the action and it appears the trigger guard sinches up tight against the receiver. I've attached several pics of the rear tang fitment. It looks like it sits down into the stock and not on the beveled edges which I hear contributes to cracking. I'm guessing I'll have to relieve the rear tang so there is some space between the tang and wood. Let me know what you guys think. Thank you!

Keep your screws tight...

I use a dremel with a drum sander to give it about 1/16th clearance.
You don't need a gaping hole.
The CMP's brass screw insert/sleeve has limited value. Wrong size, to soft,IMO.
