I like this, but have no idea what has been done here. Time for some explanation Mark.
Some one with a polo hat and a modified BM 59 from Star Trek?
Clueless has usual.
Ed
Italian Alpini again. He's a member of an Italian Army Mountain Brigade, hence the helmet (provides protection from falling rocks as well as ballistics while offering the visibility needed for climbing) and the folding stock, side mounted sling, etc. (also good for climbing).
This type of helmet is what a lot of your specialized teams are going to. Light weight, high visibility, low profile, less of a signature silhouette.
Check out the bi-pod... William B. Edwards, the guy who imported the BM-69, insisted he designed it for his semi-auto BM, Beretta liked it and adopted it for the BM-59. The early photos of the 59 tested at SA in Feb 1964 by Art Tuttle do not show a bi-pod. The rifle and the full story were featured in the Spring 2009 GCA Journal.Attachment 70411
