No4 Matlby question

If I get this right I get a prize. :sos: What would be the correct markings on the furniture for an early Maltby No4? The sn is 12806 , and ROFM(M) 1941 is stamped on the side of the receiver . Thanks rogerdodger

Much of the furniture was subcontracted and sent where needed during WW2.

You're looking for walnut furniture. In 1941 they weren't using suncorite yet, so look for walnut without suncorite on the metal caps. Don't use Longbranch marked wood - it' American walnut and too dark. You need to find a european brit walnut stock.

A good start would be ensuring the metal bits are NOT stamped CCM.

Thanks Claven2 Looks like in my excitment I wasn't very clear. I'm not looking for new wood but trying to find out if the furniture markings already on the stock are correct. Is SNL over 74 correct?

SNL over 74 is an inspector's cartouche.
I don't remember which subcontractor that was, but it's likely just fine for your rifle so long as the wood is walnut.

I don’t know if this will help but S.L. is William Sykes Ltd. Contractor code N74? They made parts for No4 rifles.
