I am inquiring as to the protrusion of the stock bolt on a NOIMKIII. Is it necessary to fit into the tang in the forewood or can it be cut off if it does not align up with the forewood. Or is that sacrilege?

If you have the right size ring spanner you can tweak the bolt up tighter from the square end, if not, cut it off if you have to, no ones going to see it, i personaly would prefer not to see you do it but its your rifle
That, or try a thicker washer on the stock bolt, so it tightens up in a different position. Normally they can be reefed up a bit if not quite aligned.
Should be no need to chop the end off.
Or use a No4 rifle double coil spring washer. That's what we used to use on the last of the old No1 rifles. Works on the No4 so no reason why it shouldn't work on a No1. Mind you, we also used No4 stock bolts too if necessary and did them up with the BRACE, Armourers, stockbolt. Believe me, with this bit of kit, it definately WOULD align!
