Slim PH eyepiece
My eyesight´s got so bad that I need a scope most of the time (but dislike using it). Problem is that the rear of the scope fouls the PH windage adjustable sight when the rear sight is folded back. I don´t really need the windage adjustment, as I can drift the front sight, but I do need a PH iris diopter, as the standard aperture is too large.
At present, I have to remove the rear sight whenever I fit the scope, which complicates things when competing with other geriatrics.
Is there a PH iris diopter that scews directly onto a standard LE No. 4/5 aperture sight that could be removed when the sope is used?

If you get an AJP 8/53 sight which attaches directly to the standard rear sight, you use a 6 position eyepiece and this can be removed. The profile of the rear sight with the 8/53 attached is pretty much unchanged.

The Devizes Gunsmith, Devizes, Wiltshire, England has an 8/53 sight in stock at the moment. He's very knowledgeable on Enfields and a decent bloke to deal with, link below:

Hope that helps.

Possibly the cheapest way around is to get another standard rear sight and drill and tap the aperture to take the iris of your choice. You can simply screw the iris out to fit the scope, and you will still have the original sight if the rifle is a good collectable example. I did this years ago on my No 5 to see if it was a better shooter than me... And it was!

Superb idea, Son - what diameter/thread of tap is needed to take the PH eyepiece?
